About ConchyJoe.com

I first heard the words Conchy Joe when I was a kid, and hanging out in the Bahamas with my parents. My parents were SCUBA instructors, and we traveled to the Bahamas from Palm Beach on a regular basis to go diving, and host dive charters..

Just what is a Conchy Joe?
I believe Conchy Joe is a term of endearment that Bahamians use to refer to a foreigner that respects their wonderful and beautiful islands.

The first time we took a boat that was new to us, a 33 foot Chris Craft, to West End, one of the v-drive housings broke as we left for Walkers Cay. We ended up staying in West End, and had a new v-drive flown over. This was in 1976, but must have cost a fortune to have done even back then.

We normally spent all of our time on the boat, but this time I had the opportunity to wander around West End, and play with the kids that lived there. They started calling me Conchy Joe. There parents also called me Conchy Joe.

As recently as 2004, I have been in the Bahamas, and a Bahamian lady has called me a Conchy Joe. I was honored.

What is ConchyJoe.com about?
ConchyJoe.com is about that v-drive housing that broke. More specifically, this site is about sharing knowledge that sailing and power cruisers have gained from experience.

I have scoured the Internet looking for information that is helpful to cruisers, and put all that information here on one site.

There is also a project forum that you can post your projects in. If you are not interested in learning how to post pictures imbedded in the text, simply email us the pictures and text, and we will do it for you.

The forums on this site are categorized in a manner that will help you find information about a particular goal you are trying to accomplish with your boat. There are categories for 110V and 12V systems, engine and fuel systems, ground tackle, and water making and refrigerating systems. For sailors there are categories for standing rigging, sails, winches, and other features related to sailing.

Each forum has a topic at the top with all kinds of general information about that forum. You may find the answers you are looking for buy reading this topic, or looking through the contributions from other cruisers.

If you do not find what you are looking for, we are here to help! Simply post what you are looking for in the appropriate forum, and we will try to get you an answer as soon as possible.

Conchyjoe is operated independently of any sailing or power cruising magazines. We subscribe to and respect all of the sailing and power cruising magazines in circulation. We do not have an agenda, so you are free to post or talk about anything sailing and power cruising related.

Please do not post complete articles from these magazines. If you do, they will be deleted. Many times the content is the property of the magazine or the writer. You are welcome to post a link to an article you are referring to, and you will see us do that same in our reference sections.

What is not on this site
One thing you will not currently find is forums covering social or political topics.  If you are interested in socializing or talking politics with other cruisers, you fill find many links in the resource section to do that.

We also do not allow nude, partially nude, or sexually suggestive photos. We will delete them, hunt you down, and keel haul you.

There is a forum called Conchy Joe's Tiki Bar and Grill. This is a catch all forum that you can discuss topics that you do not see a forum for.

So sit back, relax, and have a nice time. You have no where to go and all day to get there.
